Understanding The Enneagram
The Enneagram is an ancient personality typing system that identifies Nine Personality Types that are expressed individually and in relationship to others. Unlike Marston’s DiSC™ Assessment or the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator™, the Enneagram acts as a unique tool for understanding and explaining human behavior, and the underlying motivations that drive behavior and the gifts we all have for the transformation of non-productive encounters with others.
There are 9 types on the Enneagram. We will list them below by triad. The triads are based on thinking centers within the body.
THE ANGER / GUT TRIAD
8. The Challenger
9. The Peacemaker
1. The Perfectionist
THE FEELING / HEART TRIAD
2. The Helper
3. The Performer
4. The Individualist
THE FEAR / HEAD TRIAD
5. The Investigator
6. The Loyalist
7. The Enthusiast
Other terms you will hear on this show, and frequently with The Enneagram.
WINGS - This is the number on either the left or right of any particular number. In most cases, you might find that you have a wing on either the right, or left of your number.
STRESS / SECURITY - Your personality type is not confined within one number. Your number is associated with where you go in stress, and where you go in health.
For example: If you're a 1 (The Perfectionist) - in stress or unhealthy circumstances, you pick up 4 (The Individualist) traits. In security - you will find qualities of 7 (The Enthusiast).
